Medical Exams for Minors and Dependents

When moving to Canada, children and dependent minors must also complete an Immigration Medical Exam (IME) as part of the family's application. At Panel Physician Calgary, our doctors and nurses provide a calm, welcoming environment to ensure the exam is easy and stress-free for your little ones.

What Tests Will My Child Need?

The tests required by IRCC depend strictly on your child's age on the day of the exam:

  • Under 5 years old: Medical history and physical exam only. No needles, blood tests, or x-rays are required.
  • Ages 5 to 10: Medical history, physical exam, and a urine test.
  • Ages 11 to 14: Medical history, physical exam, urine test, and a chest x-ray.
  • Ages 15 and older: Medical history, physical exam, urine test, chest x-ray, and a blood test.

Important Requirements for Children

Please note that any applicant under the age of 16 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian during their appointment. The parent or guardian must present their own valid ID in addition to the child's original passport.

Vaccination Records

While COVID-19 and routine childhood vaccines are not strictly required to pass an IRCC medical exam, we ask that you bring your child's immunization records if you have them. Our physician will record them in the eMedical system as part of your child's general health profile.
