What to Expect at Your Immigration Medical
A short guide to your visit, from what to bring to what happens after.
What to bring
- Your original passport or other travel document.
- The IMM 1017 form (Medical Report, Client Biodata and Summary), if IRCC sent you one.
- Glasses or contact lenses, if you use them.
- A list of your current medications.
- Records of any past or current medical conditions, if you have them.
You do not need a passport photo. We take your photo at the clinic.
During your visit
- Check-in. We confirm your identity and your IRCC details.
- Medical history. The physician asks about past illnesses, surgeries and any medication you take.
- Physical exam. Height, weight, blood pressure, vision, heart and lungs, and a general physical check.
- Tests for your age. Your medical exam and blood and urine tests, completed at our clinic on the same day. See which tests apply to each age group.
No fasting is needed. You can eat and take your usual medication before you come.
After your exam
- You receive an information sheet with your photo and case number. It is your proof that you completed the exam.
- We send your report to IRCC through eMedical, usually within 5 to 10 days.
- If a test result is abnormal, the physician will explain next steps.
- IRCC makes the final medical decision, based on the facts we report. It is not made by the clinic.
- Your medical exam result is valid for 12 months from the exam date.
